Whenever I’m asked about Social Media, I tend to take a bit of a defensive stance. I argue that as important as it is, that it is just a part of the media mix. That Social is not for everyone – although I do believe that every business should be seriously considering it. I stand by these statements and I will always view all new forms of media and communications critically. My clients have always respected that…
That doesn’t mean that I don’t get excited about it though. OR see the value in it. My gosh, I just read in @Mashable that there is a new Social app that allows friends to shop together on Amazon, Zappos, and other sites. It’s called Plurchase. To me this is the perfect use of Social technology as it completely taps into existing human behavior and simply and eloquently enables it online.
So why should you care. Well, I can wax eloquently about it, or I can turn you on to a video that got me excited enough to write this morning. It does a nice job in a most engaging fashion in framing why Social Media is something that every business should be taking a look at. It’s not for every person, but for business, well, check out this video and let me know what you think…
Thanks for sharing. All seems a buzz with managing ones, um, what did they call it? “social graph rank?” I heard someone say that people will just evolve to gain a higher threshold for embarrassment or get use to the idea being on all the time.
What’s most interesting is how many people are now blending personal and business because of social media. Although I try to keep Facebook as personal and Twitter and LinkedIn as business, I sometimes overlap. I imagine this creating issues for some, definitely embarrassing moments in addition to being “on” all of the time which I just can’t handle. That’s why I don’t Tweet on the weekends – won’t even do it for clients
